City Project
Moroff
& Kühne has spent the last three and a half
years on
a number of projects in the Airport City complex on the N2
outside Cape Town.
The complex, which covers approximately 100 hectares is home to a
diverse cross section of businesses, from air freight
companies to
food manufacturing facilities.
We spoke to Mike Kühne, who has been involved in many of the
projects since the beginning to see if he
could
remember his first project. “It was a
factory for a small freighting company, Pioneer Freighting,
and
we were busy on the project for six months,” recalls
Mike.
"We have been involved in over ten of the Airport City developments and
what makes this interesting and exciting is that the ground conditions
here are quite different,” says Mike.“The area used
to be a
dump site and the ground is extremely marshy which is a challenge. This
is why we needed to specify different founding solutions, depending on
the type of building that was being constructed” comments
Nik Moroff.
The architecture is diverse and there are some very interesting
features to many of the buildings.
Development is continuing in this area, with Phases 4, 5 and
6. Moroff & Kühne will still be involved in
many of the
projects.
